Yep... this was my first daydream doodle of Flapjack...

And then I painted it (acrylics)... and then I pitched it at cartoon network. And then as I developed it for a couple of years, I realized that Flapjack needs someone to interact with. Who would bring out more of his personality (and so he didn't have to talk to himself). So I gave him K'nuckles. And it got too dark. Because K'nuckles is a rapscallion. So I gave him comfort and safety (Bubbie). And changed her to a real whale. Initially she was a little more of a stick-in-the-mud like Davie from Davie and Goliath. But then when I was auditioning voices I found Roz Ryan(who does Bubbie's voice) and everything got a million times better...

It's amazing how characters can start out completely different than how they come to be.

I love how this picture is colored! And I especially love the texture on mechanical!Bubbie.

Oh, sweet! This picture's awesome, and it's cool seeing how the show developed...

Also, I'll have to use "rapscallion" more in my vocabulary. Seriously.

I like how, at a distance, Flapjack appears to be Bubbie's eye.
